The Matches
Alazanes de Granma, the 2022 Cuban National League champions defeated Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks of the American Association of Professional Baseball 3-1 in the historic first ever WBSC-organised club tournament. Later in the day Colombian Baseball League champions Caimanes de Barranquilla won 5-3 versus hosts Leones de Yucatán, the Liga Mexicano de Beisbol 2022 champions. 5
The following day Caimanes de Barranquilla doubled their win count with a 7-3 victory over Alazanes de Granma while the hosts Leones de Yucatán dropped a close game 1-2 to Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks.
In the final round-robin fixtures Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks and Caimanes de Barranquilla progressed to the final game after a 10-6 victory for the American team meant both finished tied 2-1. With Alazanes de Granma needing to defeat the hosts to force a three-way tie the Cuban champions lost 4-9 to Leones de Yucatán in the last round-robin game.
The Final Game was an 8-0 triumph for the AAPB champions Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks over Caimanes de Barranquilla as they brought the first ever Baseball Champions League Americas title back to North Dakota, USA.6
The Tournament
The 2023 Baseball Champions League Americas was the first event of its’ kind organised by the World Baseball and Softball Confederation, bringing the 2022 Champions of the American Association of Professional Baseball (AAPB – officially affiliated to Major League Baseball), the Cuban National League, the Colombian Baseball League and Liga de Mexicano de Beisbol together for a four-team Baseball Champions League.
