Report

The Irish Softball Association was formed in 1989 and started the Leinster Softball League the following year. By 1996 the league had grown to 5 Divisions or Levels and 60 teams.

The 1st Division was the top Division and where some of the oldest teams in Ireland fought it out, including the original team Dodder Dynamoes, Marlay Martyrs and Oddsox. Each Division was divided into East, Central and West Conferences with Inter-Conference play and end-of-season playoffs to decide the title.

All of the teams in this period were based in Dublin, with the Marlay Park, Rathfarnham, based Martyrs beating Dodder Dynamoes 25-3 in the 1996 Final. The 1997 Final saw BatPak, based in the Northside defeat Marlay Martyrs 11-6 to win the Championship.

For the 1998 season the League was divided into an East and West Section with the Top Half of each Section qualifying for the second-half  Primary Conference and the bottom half playing in the Secondary Conference. Marlay Martyrs A would win the title back that season, with Oddsox in second. A Similar format was followed for the 1999 season with the number of teams expanded to 16. Marlay Martyrs A would again be the Champions finishing 3 points ahead of Dodder Dynamoes.

Following the 1999 season the league was re-organised with the Primary Conference and Secondary Conference making up two Separate Divisions: Premier 1 & Premier 2, with the lower divisions renamed Senior, Junior and Minor.
