Gameweek Reports

Gameweeks 1-2 Report (April 2022)

After two Game Weeks Carrick Emmets from Co. Monaghan, The Heath (Co. Laois), Erne Eagles (Co. Cavan) and Cuchulainn Rounders (Co. Carlow) were the only undefeated teams having played one game each. Limekiln Rounders (Co. Dublin), Glynn Barntown (Co. Wexford) had both won one and lost one while Breaffy GAA (Co. Mayo), Adamstown Rounders (Co. Wexford) and Skryne GFC (Co. Meath) were all winless. [References: S-2]

Gameweeks 3-9 Report (May-June 2022)

It was very tight at the top of the GAA Rounders Senior Men’s All-Ireland Championship after Gameweek 9 at the end of June with Erne Eagles in first place on 23 points having won four games from five. The Heath and Cuchulainn Rounders were both on 18 points with 3 wins and one loss and Carrick Emmets were undefeated on 15 points after 3 victories from 3 games. Limekiln were seemingly out the running with 2 wins and 3 losses as were both Adamstown and Breaffy with 1 triumph and 4 defeats, although Glynn Barntown, having only lost 2 games were still in with a chance with 1 victory. Skryne had only played one game and forfeited one. [References: S-2]

Gameweeks 10-13 Report (July 2022)

A series of big games between the top clubs left Cuchulainn and Erne Eagles out in front with 33 points from 6 wins in 7 games apiece. The next four places were very close with Carrick Emmets in third on 30 points from 4 wins and 1 draw from 7 games; Limekiln on 29 points from 4 wins and 3 losses; The Heath on 26 points from 4 wins and 2 losses; and Glynn Barntown on 2 wins and 1 draw from their 6 games were on 23 points. Teams out of the running were adamstown on 2 wins from 7 games; Breaffy with a single win from 7 games and Skryne with 6 losses. [References: S-2]

Gameweek 14 Report (7 August 2022)

Skryne lost by only 4 runs to 6 to Glynn Barntown as they finished with improved form especially defensively. The narrow win left Glynn Barntown in with an outside chance of making the Semi-Finals if they won versus Adamstown in their final game and LImekiln and Carrick Emmets both lost, although Glynn Barntown would need a massive win to overhaul Carrick’s run rate in order to finish above them in the tie-breaker. [References: S-2]

Gameweek 15 Report (14 August 2022)

Cuchulainn took the 2022 GAA Rounders Senior All-Ireland Championship Men’s League title after defeating Limekiln Rounders 20-2 having played only two Innings to Breaffy’s four. The Co. Carlow team had a very slight Run Rate advantage over Co. Cavan’s Erne Eagles to take the honours after both clubs finished with seven wins and one loss in their eight games. Erne Eagles had a 28-8 victory over Co. Dublin’s Limekiln in the Final Gameweek, with four innings played by Erne. Those two clubs were joined in the All-Ireland Semi-Finals by The Heath of Co. Laois and Carrick Emmetts of Co. Monaghan after The Heath won by 20-17 in the gamde between the two clubs in Gameweek 15. In the other game Co. Wexford’s Glynn-Barntown won 33-10 versus Co. Dublin’s Adamstown but failed to overcome Carrick Emmetts better Run Rate after the two finished levels on points. [References: S-1 and S-2]

All-Ireland Semi-Finals (27 August 2022)

Carrick Emmetts booked their place in the GAA Rounders Senior All-Ireland Championship Men’s Final after a close 19-17 victory at Cuchulainn Rounders of Co. Carlow. The Co. Monaghan Club went on to meet Ulster neighbours Erne Eagles in the Final after the Co. Cavan club had an easier win over The Heath of Co. Laois, running out 32-16 victors. [References: S-1]

All-Ireland Final (18 September 2022)

In an All-Ulster 2022 GAA Rounders Senior All-Ireland Championship Men’s Final, Co. Cavan’s Erne Eagles triumphed for a record 14th time, The Eagles defeated Carrick Emmetts from neighbouring Co. Monaghan 24-6 after 6.5 Innings in the Final played at the National Sports Campus at Abbottstown, Co. Dublin. [References: S-1]

ABOUT GAA ROUNDERS

Rounders is an Irish and British version of Softball and Baseball, and thought to be the ancestor of both. It was first codified in Ireland as part of the Original GAA Charter of 1884, but not organised until 1958. It is a Bat and Ball (also known as Safe Haven) sport whereby the batter attempts to hit a ball thrown at him or her by a pitcher or bowler and then attempts to run around the bases back home.

Carlow’s Bagenalstown won the Championship in 2002 and 2003, and then Dublin’s Limekiln, based in Tymon Park, won the 2004 and 2005 Championships. Erne Eagles won the Championship again in 2006 and 2007, before Bagenalstown took the title for the third time in the decade in 2008. Mayo’s Castlebar were then Champions in 2009, and the Final Honours of the decade went to St. Clare’s of Cavan in 2010.

Report

Antrim’s Erin’s Own, having done so much to promote GAA Rounders, won the Senior Men’s All-Ireland Championship in 1977, 1979 and 1980. Tyrone’s Plunkett’s took the 1982 to 1984 Championships, and from 1986 to 1989 Lakelands from Dublin took the honours. Mayo’s Breaffy had more luck than their Gaelic Football counterparts winning the Championship from 1992 to 1995, and from 1998 to 2007 Cavan’s Erne Eagles won a record 10 times in a row. Limekiln took the honours for Dublin in 2011, 2013 and 2014, and The Heath from Laois were Champions in 2012 and then three times in a row from 2015 to 2017. Erne Eagles regained former glory with wins in the 2018 and 2019 Championshps.
